EC AC

I tried drilling for a cotter pin or similar to keep the parking brake linkage from coming free again.  It didn't work well.
It's time to make hoses.  So I did.
They did not seal - I could hear the air leaking at the compressor
This is the part that bolts to the compressor to adapt it to the new lines
and this is the compressor side.

Long story short - there should be O-rings in these grooves.  I replaced the compressor adapter with two different ones before realizing that this was the issue.
Of course, it'd be faaaar too easy for that to be the only issue.  Once I could get it to hold a vacuum, I put some air into the system (~20psi, not obnoxious) and used soapy water to find the next leak.  It's here.  Had to replace the fitting (and one nearby) to correct.  Summit was very accommodating and warrantied both fittings for me.
With those fittings replaced, time for the next problem - once I put refrigerant in the system, this became an obvious issue (bulge in the hose at the next fitting).
Alternate view
It keeps getting worse. Replace the fittings and that part of the hose... again.
With the hoses corrected and the AC charged (and actually holding the charge), I found that the air coming out of the vents was ambient temp or higher.

Troubleshooting found that the heater valve wasn't closing, and probably because the cable had come free.
Also found that the vacuum switch thing wasn't sealing; corrected that by spraying silicone spray into it and working it around.
Even with all that, here's the best it got in the ~95 degree summer.. better than outside temp but definitely not what it should be.
That is with these pressures here.
Internet thinks it's because this gap is too large.  Still haven't corrected it.

Go back to the previous day (which is also today (23 Dec 2024), but on the other car)
